Birmingham road closures for Remembrance Sunday

Birmingham city centre will see significant road closures this Sunday as the city prepares to honour fallen servicemen and women during Remembrance Day commemorations.

Road Closures and Timings

Fifteen key roads will be completely shut to traffic from 6am until 2.30pm on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The closures are necessary to ensure the safety of participants attending the annual service of remembrance, which takes place on Colmore Row opposite St Philip's Cathedral.

The full list of affected roads includes: Bennetts Hill, Cannon Street, Cherry Street, Church Street (between Colmore Row and Barwick Street), Colmore Row (except the link between Livery Street and Colmore Circus), Ethel Street, Lower Temple Street, Needless Alley, New Street (from Victoria Square to Cannon Street), Newhall Street (between Colmore Row and Edmund Street), Temple Row, Temple Street, Temple Row West, Waterloo Street, and Temple Passage.

Remembrance Service Details

The day's events will begin with a parade starting from Temple Row at 10.30am, followed by the main service at 10.55am. The traditional two-minute silence will be observed at 11am precisely.

The service will be attended by veterans, serving members of the Armed Forces, civic leaders, and members of the public wishing to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Travel Advice for Birmingham

Motorists and delivery services are being strongly advised to plan ahead as significant delays and diversions are expected throughout the morning and early afternoon. Alternative routes should be considered where possible.

Members of the public wishing to attend the service are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good position and join the city in this important act of remembrance. The road closures will be fully lifted by 2.30pm, allowing normal traffic flow to resume for the remainder of the day.
