Road closures have been officially confirmed for the upcoming Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K and 2K races, scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 10. The event will feature a new and improved route that winds through Caerphilly town centre and surrounding areas, with both races starting and finishing on Crescent Road.
Event Details and Route Information
The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K continues to be a flagship event in the borough, attracting runners of all ages and abilities. Alongside the main 10K race, the popular 2K event will return, welcoming hundreds of young participants and families. This initiative supports the Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029, aiming to encourage more people to engage in physical activity.
Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions
To ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, a series of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions will be implemented throughout the morning. Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and consider alternative routes. The following closures have been announced:
- Crescent Road: Closed from 6am to 1pm.
- Piccadilly Square (including Eastview and Southern Street): Closed from 9am to 10.15am.
- Pontygwindy Road (A469): Closed from 9.30am to 10.45am.
- Cardiff Road (A468) eastbound traffic between Cedar Tree Roundabout and Bedwas Bridge Roundabout: Closed from 9am to 11.30am.
- Business Park Roundabout and surrounding roads: Closed from 9.30am to noon.
- Town centre roads near Caerphilly Castle: Closed from 9am to noon.
In addition, there will be no access to Gallagher Retail Park from the A468 between 9am and 11.30am. Restrictions will also be in place on key access routes during closure times. Despite these measures, access between Lansbury Park and Mornington Meadows will be maintained throughout the event.
Impact on Transport and Parking
Road closure signage and cones will be positioned along the route in advance to alert motorists. Residents should note that parking restrictions will be enforced on sections of the route, and bus services may experience temporary changes. The Council encourages all drivers to adjust their travel plans accordingly to minimise disruptions.
The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K is a key community event, promoting health and fitness across the borough. For full event details and updates, individuals are directed to the official event website.
