Multi-Vehicle Collision Closes M54 Lanes
Emergency services rushed to the M54 motorway following a serious multi-vehicle collision that resulted in two people being transported to hospital. The incident, which involved a heavy goods vehicle (HGV), caused significant disruption during the early hours of Wednesday, November 26.
Timeline of the M54 Incident
The collision occurred on the westbound stretch between junction 2 for Wolverhampton and junction 3 for Albrighton. Police alerted the West Midlands Ambulance Service at 11.49pm on Tuesday, November 25. Upon arrival, crews discovered an HGV that had crashed through the central reservation near Brewood.
A substantial emergency response was deployed, including two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. In total, four people were assessed by medics at the scene.
Injuries and Ongoing Disruption
Fortunately, no one is believed to have sustained serious injuries. Two men received treatment for non-serious injuries and were taken to New Cross Hospital for further precautionary checks. The two other individuals were discharged after being assessed on site.
The collision caused major delays throughout the morning. National Highways reported that one lane on the westbound carriageway reopened by approximately 8am on Wednesday. However, one lane remained closed in both directions due to damage to the safety barrier. This led to eastbound delays of 40 minutes with five miles of congestion, and westbound delays of around 10 minutes.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the details of the response and the condition of those involved.
