Elderly Man Hospitalised Following Evening Collision

An elderly man was rushed to hospital with injuries after being struck by a car on a major Birmingham route on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:50 pm on November 7 at the junction of Poets Corner and the A45 Small Heath Highway.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, received emergency medical attention at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

Road Closure and Police Investigation

Following the collision, Small Heath Highway was blocked for several hours, causing significant disruption to evening traffic.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and plan alternative routes while investigation and clearance work took place.

The driver of the car involved remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their ongoing enquiries into the circumstances of the crash.

Appeal for Witnesses and Information

West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and have issued an appeal to the public.

A force spokesperson stated: "Officers were called to reports of a collision between a man and a car at the junction of Poets Corner on Small Heath Highway. The man in his 70s was taken to hospital."

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the event or have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the collision.
