Motability BMW Driver Allegedly Hits 100mph on M6, Car Seized by Police
Warwickshire Police intercepted a Motability vehicle on the M6 motorway after the driver was accused of reaching speeds exceeding 100mph. The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway near Corley during the early hours of Sunday, April 5.
Details of the Traffic Stop and Charges
The vehicle involved was a 74 plate BMW 218i, which police stopped due to the extreme speed violation. Authorities reported that the driver was not covered by the insurance policy for the car, leading to additional legal issues.
The driver has been reported to court for excess speed and no insurance, with the vehicle seized immediately following the stop. Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit shared details of the incident on social media, highlighting the seriousness of the offense.
Condition of the Vehicle and Consequences
Police described the interior of the BMW as being in a disgusting state, noting poor maintenance. This factor, combined with the alleged misuse of the Motability scheme, has resulted in the vehicle likely not being returned to the customer.
Motability, the organization that provides vehicles to people with disabilities, has been notified about the incident and is conducting its own investigation. The police emphasized that such misuse of scheme vehicles is unacceptable and will be dealt with strictly.
Broader Implications and Police Statement
This case underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and the proper use of Motability cars. Warwickshire Police stated in their social media post that allowing this sort of crime to go on is simply not an option, reinforcing their commitment to enforcing traffic laws.
The incident serves as a reminder to all drivers about the importance of adhering to speed limits and maintaining valid insurance, particularly when using vehicles provided under special schemes.
