EDF Becomes Only Energy Supplier Offering Free Electricity on Sundays
EDF Only Supplier Offering Free Electricity Sundays

EDF has become the only energy supplier to offer free electricity four times a month, introducing a new Sunday rule for UK households. The company, which competes with British Gas, OVO, EON Next, and Octopus, will give customers free electricity on four Sundays over the next month.

The EDF Sunday Saver challenge will run throughout May, offering customers the opportunity to earn up to 64 hours of free electricity regardless of the weather. The initiative provides an easy way for households to reduce their energy bills by shifting electricity usage away from peak hours during the week, typically from 4pm to 7pm.

The more electricity customers shift, the more free electricity they can earn the following Sunday, with between four and 16 hours available. Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF, said: 'Regardless of the weather, with Sunday Saver customers can earn free electricity every Sunday, and as we head into the warmer months, there is still plenty of opportunities to save on bills.'

'Sunday Saver makes it simple for customers to flex their electricity use during busy weekday evenings, save money on their bills, and be rewarded with free electricity. This means customers can focus on enjoying their summer plans and not worry about their bills.'

'If more free electricity is what you are after, customers can also explore our FreePhase tariffs, which give households free electricity whenever there is an excess of renewable energy. Customers on FreePhase benefitted from 37 hours of free electricity in the last fortnight.'

Customers can sign up for May's Sunday Saver from now until Sunday 3 May at 11.59pm, with the challenge starting on Monday 4 May. Participants can use their earned free electricity on Sunday 17, 24, and 31 May, and Sunday 7 June. Customers can learn more about the Sunday Saver challenge on the website and sign up via MyAccount.

EDF explained the eligibility: 'To take part, customers will need a working smart meter for their electricity supply that is sending EDF readings every 30 minutes. Progress can be tracked on Energy Hub via MyAccount, where users can access a personalised view of their household's energy use.'
