Sky Broadband Customers Face £3 Monthly Hike as Speed Guarantee Perk Ends
Sky and Now broadband customers will see their monthly payments increase by £3 from April 1, regardless of their current plan. This change coincides with Sky scrapping the money-back aspect of its Speed Guarantee, a major customer perk.
Significant Impact on Lower-Tier Packages
The £3 monthly rise represents a substantial increase for customers on lower-cost packages, with some facing hikes of up to 12.5%. This adjustment applies uniformly across all Sky and Now broadband plans, affecting a broad customer base.
One frustrated customer on the Sky forum expressed: "I've just received a letter from Sky about changes to WIFI MAX. From April 1st the money back aspect of the Speed Guarantee will no longer apply."
Loss of Key Guarantees
In addition to the Speed Guarantee money-back feature, the Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee will also be discontinued. Customers who experience issues with either guarantee will now only have the option to terminate their contract without fees, rather than receiving compensation.
A second forum user commented: "At least they let you know upfront. Next they just have to change all the Help to reflect these changes."
Contract Termination Rights
Customers affected by this price increase have the right to leave their contract early without paying cancellation fees, but only within 30 days from the announcement date. This policy does not apply to customers who also subscribe to Sky TV services.
A third customer noted: "I think the Speed Guarantee was based on the Service Checker falling short three days in a row. I never understood how the Wall to Wall Wifi could be monitored."
Understanding the Speed Guarantee
Under the soon-to-be-removed Speed Guarantee, Sky provided customers with a Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed (GMDS). If speeds fell below this threshold for at least three consecutive days within a 30-day period, customers could:
- Amend their broadband package without upfront fees
- Cancel their broadband contract early without termination charges
Additionally, Part Fibre or Full Fibre broadband customers were eligible to claim money back once during their contract term. This feature will no longer be available after April 1.
