A Birmingham takeaway has been ordered to pay a fine after a customer contracted food poisoning from eating their meal. The incident, which occurred in 2023, led to an investigation by environmental health officers from Birmingham City Council.
Court Case Details
Birmingham Magistrates' Court heard that the customer fell ill shortly after consuming food from the establishment, located in the Alum Rock area. The council's investigation uncovered multiple hygiene breaches, including inadequate handwashing facilities and improper food storage.
The takeaway, which has not been named, was found guilty of breaching food safety regulations. The court imposed a fine of £2,000, along with costs and a victim surcharge, bringing the total to £3,500.

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: "We take food safety very seriously. This case highlights the importance of maintaining high standards to protect public health. We will continue to take action against businesses that put customers at risk."
The council also reminded all food businesses to ensure they comply with hygiene regulations to avoid similar penalties.
