Cala Homes (Thames) is supporting Parity for Disability, a local charity that provides specialist support for people with multiple disabilities and their families.
Charity Services and Support
Parity for Disability offers a range of activities, programmes and support services to fill the gap for people with profound physical and learning disabilities who have finished education and require high levels of assistance with everyday tasks. With one of three locations based in Mytchett, the company is supporting the local charity through volunteering at the gardening group, tidying and maintaining the garden at Salisbury Grove and attending activities hosted by the charity.
Donations and Fundraising
Plants have also been donated for Parity for Disability’s Spring Market to contribute to fundraising efforts. In addition, a clothing donation point for the charity shop has been established at the local sales office, with proceeds from sold items helping to support services for adults with profound and multiple disabilities.
Charity Leader's Reaction
Helene Abbiss, community support lead at Parity for Disability, said: “It’s been fantastic to begin conversations with Cala and explore what we might be able to achieve together. Staff and students have really valued Tony’s visits, and the support already provided has helped raise awareness of Parity and the work we do. We’re excited by the opportunities now being discussed, which could make a real difference to the quality and sustainability of the Mytchett service for the people with profound and multiple disabilities who rely on it.”
Community Pledge Initiative
The support forms part of Cala’s Community Pledge, which goes above and beyond planning obligations to offer tailored help to local communities. Through volunteering, education programmes and bespoke initiatives, the pledge delivers meaningful support where it is needed most. Eileen Guihen, sales and marketing director at Cala Homes (Thames), commented: “We are committed to supporting the communities around our developments and creating a positive local impact. It has been a pleasure to work with Parity for Disability and see first-hand the valuable support the charity provides through its Mytchett service.”
