The Church Wilne Rotary Club has made a significant donation to support a local sports initiative for people living with Parkinson's. Rotarian Martin Dowey presented a cheque for £1,000 to the Parkinson's walking football team, aiding their journey to a national tournament in Glasgow.
Inspiring Presentation Leads to Generous Donation
The donation was prompted by an inspiring presentation from Olivia and Luke. They represent a joint initiative between the Derby County Community Trust and the Derby Royal Hospital Parkinson's Unit. Following this, Rotarian Martin Dowey attended the team's Christmas party at Pride Park to formally present the cheque on behalf of Club President Stephen Street.
Dowey praised the players and organisers for their remarkable teamwork and dedication. He highlighted the profound positive impact that football and regular exercise have on the lives of those navigating Parkinson's disease.
A Milestone Achievement at the National Tournament
The team's trip to Glasgow proved to be a historic occasion. During the national tournament, the squad celebrated a major milestone by scoring their first-ever goal in competition. This achievement underscored the team's progress and the empowering role of sport.
In a gesture of gratitude for the Rotary Club's support, Olivia presented Martin Dowey with a framed thank-you note. This recognised the club's generous contribution to their cause.
Highlighting Outstanding Community and Healthcare Work
This initiative shines a light on the exceptional work of the Derby Hospitals Parkinson's Occupational Therapy Team. Their staff and volunteers work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for patients facing the daily challenges of Parkinson's.
