Chelmsford Pop-Up Sale Funds Mental Health Ward Underwear
Pre-Loved Clothes Sale for Mental Health Patients

Two dedicated volunteers from a local non-profit are spearheading a special community initiative to support some of the most vulnerable people in the area. Charlotte Spooner and Amanda Crossley of Roots of Hope Volunteers are organising a pop-up shop to raise crucial funds for patients receiving inpatient mental health care.

Addressing a Vital Need with Dignity

The core mission of this event is to provide new underwear and free second-hand clothes for individuals in the acute mental health wards run by the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. The organisers, who are peer workers themselves, identified a significant and often overlooked need. Many patients find themselves without adequate clothing for various reasons, including financial hardship, a lack of family or friends to bring them items, or changes in their weight due to their health.

Roots of Hope Community Interest Company, the non-profit behind the event, started the Community Clothes Cycle project to meet this need directly. By offering free, quality clothing, they aim to provide not just practical support but also a boost in dignity and morale for patients during a challenging time.

Event Details: How You Can Get Involved

The community is invited to participate and support this worthy cause. The pre-loved clothes sale will take place at the North Avenue Christian Centre on North Avenue in Chelmsford. Mark your calendars for this Saturday (November 15), with the event running from 10am until 2pm.

Entry to the sale is completely free, making it accessible for everyone. Shoppers can find fantastic bargains, with items starting from just £1. For those looking to make a day of it, tea, coffee, and cake will also be available for purchase.

Other Ways to Support the Cause

If you cannot make it to the sale but still wish to contribute, there are other ways to help. Roots of Hope has set up a dedicated fundraising page for anyone who would like to make a financial donation to the project. To learn more about the organisation's impactful work, you can follow them on their social media channels.

This initiative highlights the power of community-driven action in providing essential mental health support. By donating, shopping, or simply spreading the word, residents of Chelmsford and beyond can make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbours.
