Sunshine Run Charity 5K Returns to Newcastle for 23rd Year

The Sunshine Run charity 5K is set to return to Newcastle Quayside for its 23rd consecutive year, continuing its legacy as a key fundraising event for local families. Sponsored by Stagecoach for the sixth year running, this popular race attracts participants from across the North East, including club runners, business teams, and families supported by the charity.

Record-Breaking Goals and Community Support

Following a record number of runners last year, organizers are determined to surpass their target of 500 participants this year. The flat and fast route is designed to welcome runners of all abilities, making it accessible to everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes. The event is well-attended by supporters, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the Quayside.

All participants receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal as part of their entry, with a portion of the fee directly benefiting the Sunshine Fund. Proceeds from the run fund specialist and adapted equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illnesses in the region, making a tangible difference in their lives.

Introducing The Sunshine Mile for Schools

In an exciting new development, this year's event will feature The Sunshine Mile, specifically designed to engage schools and youth groups. As the minimum age for the 5K run is 15 years old, this initiative aims to involve younger children in supporting their peers.

The Sunshine Mile offers a self-guided, interactive one-mile circular route along Newcastle's iconic Quayside. Participants will cross the Swing Bridge, walk along the Gateshead side, and return via the Millennium Bridge. Volunteers will be stationed along the route to assist, and maps with educational worksheets will be provided to make the experience both fun and informative.

Entry to The Sunshine Mile is free, but organizers encourage each child to raise at least £5 in sponsorship. These funds will help create brighter futures for babies, children, and young people living with complex needs in the North East. All participants will receive a certificate and goodie bag upon completion.
