Jayne Chapman, the dedicated manager of Tatton Park's farm in Cheshire, has been honored as an Unsung Hero at a prestigious national ceremony. The award was presented at the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2026, held at Aerospace Bristol on Wednesday, June 3.
A Well-Deserved Recognition
Carole Hyde, head of rural and cultural economy at Tatton Park, expressed pride in Chapman's achievement, stating: "Everyone here is incredibly proud of Jayne; this recognition is truly deserved and reflects her outstanding leadership, dedication, and lasting impact within the tourism sector. It highlights her ability to inspire others through exceptional commitment and a determination to go above and beyond in her role."
35 Years of Service
Chapman has devoted 35 years to Tatton Park, progressing from a farm assistant to farm manager in 2009. Her passion for animals, education, and wellbeing has transformed the farm into a vibrant, inclusive space that welcomes thousands of visitors annually. She aims for visitors to leave with a love for animals and the outdoors, a vision supported by initiatives promoting accessibility, such as weekly visits from a Cheshire East Council social care group that assists adults with anxiety.
Leadership and Teamwork
Her supportive leadership has fostered a close-knit team of five farm assistants and 36 volunteers, who share the rewards and challenges of farm life. Chapman is a strong advocate for rare breeds and has played a key role in conservation efforts, including Tatton Park's adoption scheme and an innovative project with the British Breeds Revival Trust to protect the Native Jersey Cow.
Community Impact
Her influence extends beyond the farm through community partnerships, event representation, and collaborations such as cookery demonstrations with Michelin-starred chef Aiden Byrne. Widely respected for her dedication, innovation, and community spirit, Chapman has made a lasting impact on both visitors and colleagues. Her efforts have inspired a shared passion for the countryside, strengthened community connections, and created a supportive environment where people and animals thrive.
Awards and Recognition
Receiving this latest trophy, alongside last year's Unsung Hero Award at the Visit Cheshire Tourism Awards and a 2024 Rural and Recovery Award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, marks long-overdue recognition for this true unsung hero.
