Twynham Primary School Hosts Summer Fete in Memory of Teacher Wayne Davies
Twynham Primary Hosts Fete Honouring Teacher Wayne Davies

Twynham Primary School in Christchurch will host this year’s Macmillan Caring Locally Summer Fete in honour of teacher Wayne Davies, who spent his final days under the care of the Macmillan Unit hospice. Mr Davies, who served as Welfare Officer at the school on Marsh Lane, passed away in October 2025 following a brief battle with cancer.

A Tribute to a Beloved Colleague

Headteacher Jennifer Hunter expressed the school’s motivation: “We are very pleased to be hosting this year’s Macmillan Caring Locally annual Summer Fete in a gesture of gratitude and remembrance, inspired by the loss of a much-loved colleague. Wayne’s kindness shone through in all that he did, and allowing the fete to take place at the school is our community's way of honouring his memory and supporting the hospice that cared for him in his final days.”

Support for the Macmillan Unit

The Macmillan Unit assists more than 2,200 people and their families each year, delivering specialist palliative care and support both within the unit and across the community. Macmillan Caring Locally (MCL), the charity that supports the Unit, typically holds the popular fete on the grounds of Christchurch Hospital.

New Venue Expands Event

Barry Wilson, Fundraising and Media Manager for Macmillan Caring Locally, welcomed the change: “We were absolutely thrilled when Twynham Primary offered their lovely school grounds for our fete. This is an important event in the fundraising calendar for the Unit, and holding it at the school will not only give us more space in which to host stalls and games, it will be especially poignant to know that our fun-filled family day will also be honouring a very special and much missed member of the Twynham Primary School community.”

Fete Details

The fete takes place this Saturday (June 27) from noon to 3pm and will feature stalls, games, giant inflatables, music, magic, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, members of the Fire Service, and an array of refreshments. Entry is free.
