Most Year 4 pupils spend their weekends relaxing, but one Ramsgate Arts Primary student swapped his school desk for the open road to embark on an epic nationwide adventure for a fantastic cause.
TJ, a passionate young adventurer from Year 4, teamed up with his dad, Phil, for a charity motorcycle ride stretching across the UK. Riding pillion behind his father, TJ embraced the wind, the highway, and a massive mission: to raise vital funds and support for children facing difficult stays in hospital through the Ronald McDonald House Charities appeal.
Mission accomplished: delivering toys across the UK
Setting off from Thanet during the recent school holiday, the motorcyclists first destination was Edinburgh where they donated a collection of toys, games and activities that had been generously given to help brighten the days of children receiving hospital treatment. The items were intended to provide comfort, entertainment and distraction during what can often be a difficult time for young patients and their families.
Then they travelled south via Glasgow to a campsite near Hereford. After an overnight stay, they cooked breakfast on a camping stove before continuing their journey into Wales.
Cardiff donation and scenic Welsh tour
Next stop was Cardiff where they delivered the remaining toys and activities to a children's family area within the hospital. These resources will help keep young patients occupied, offering moments of fun and normality while they receive care and treatment.
After making the donation, they travelled through the stunning Rhondda Valleys, enjoying some of the country's most spectacular scenery before returning to their campsite. They also explored the beautiful Brecon Beacons and visited Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve, where they enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lake and surrounding wildlife habitats.
Hundreds of miles for a worthy cause
They travelled hundreds of miles across England, Scotland and Wales delivering much-needed donations and raising awareness of the importance of supporting children and families during challenging times.
Phil said: "We would like to thank everyone who contributed toys and activities to this worthwhile cause. Their generosity helped make the tour a success and will have a positive impact on the lives of many children and their families."
TJ agreed: "It was a brilliant adventure."
School praise for community-minded effort
Head of school Nick Budge said: "What an experience - we are incredibly proud of TJ's efforts and the compassion he has shown in helping to make a difference to children and families across the country. As well as superb community-minded effort, TJ was able to visit some truly memorable parts of the UK with his dad on a valuable learning journey."
