YMCA's Christmas Appeal: Bring Hope to Nottinghamshire Youth
YMCA Christmas Appeal Supports Nottinghamshire Youth

This festive season, the YMCA Robin Hood Group is urging the local community to embrace the spirit of giving and Pay it Forward to support young residents living in its supported housing across Nottinghamshire.

The annual Christmas appeal aims to harness the power of donations and gifts to ensure the festive season is a brighter, more hopeful time for young people who often face the holidays feeling isolated and alone.

A Vital Lifeline During the Festive Season

Helen Lambert, director of supported housing for YMCA Robin Hood Group, emphasised the profound importance of community support at this time of year. "Christmas is such an important time for the young people living in our accommodation," she said. "We always try to make it as special as possible and it can be a very lonely time for those who aren't with their families."

She stressed that providing a warm home, support, and home comforts is more critical than ever. The impact of public generosity is immense, serving as a powerful reminder to residents that they are seen, valued, and cared for by their wider community.

Transforming Lives Beyond the Holidays

The appeal's work is part of the YMCA's broader mission to provide stability and opportunity. The story of one young man, referred to as CH, illustrates this transformative impact. After losing his parents at a young age, CH endured years of instability and hardship, moving between uncertain living situations.

His arrival at the YMCA marked a turning point. "When I came to YMCA, I finally felt safe and supported, it gave me a chance to start again," CH said. With dedicated guidance and encouragement, he rebuilt his confidence, re-engaged with education, and is now optimistically studying engineering and building a future for himself.

This year's Christmas appeal will fund the simple things many take for granted: a festive meal, decorations, and the chance for residents to celebrate together. Every contribution, whether monetary or a physical gift, helps create precious moments of happiness and belonging.

How You Can Support the Appeal

The YMCA is inviting the Nottinghamshire community to get involved in several ways:

  • Donations can be made directly online via the YMCA website.
  • Suggested gift ideas for young people are also listed on the website.
  • For those wishing to give in person, Christmas gifts can be dropped off at several locations:
    • The Malt Cross, off Market Square in Nottingham
    • YMCA Supported Housing in Mansfield
    • YMCA Supported Housing in Worksop
    • The YMCA Community & Activity Village in Newark

Beyond the festive period, the YMCA's ongoing programmes ensure young people have access to positive activities and opportunities all year round, helping them build lasting confidence, stability, and hope.
