Cefn Litter Pickers Honoured with New Uniforms Through Council Support
Volunteer litter pickers in Cefn have been presented with brand-new uniforms, thanks to generous support from Cefn Community Council and Wrexham Council's Low Carbon Communities Fund. The presentation took place this afternoon, with the #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers gathering for a team photograph to mark this special occasion. Members expressed feeling overwhelmed and honoured to receive the new kit, which will help keep volunteers warm through the colder months and significantly strengthen the sense of identity and teamwork within the group.
Dedicated Volunteers Making a Visible Impact
The #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers have become a familiar and appreciated sight across the community, regularly giving up their time to clear litter from streets, green spaces, and footpaths. Among the group's most dedicated volunteers is Jacqueline Palmer, described as a key member of the team, who is said to collect an average of 25–30 bags of rubbish each week, showcasing an extraordinary commitment to environmental cleanliness.
Uniforms Symbolise Community Pride and Unity
Volunteer Rick Gregory emphasised that the uniforms represented more than just practical clothing. "We do this because we care about our community, and today has really lifted everyone," he said. "The uniforms make us feel valued and united as a team. We'll wear them with pride every time we're out there making Cefn cleaner." This sentiment highlights how the new attire boosts morale and fosters a stronger collective purpose among the volunteers.

Chairman Mr Phil Vaughan praised the volunteers for their unwavering commitment and the positive impact their efforts have on the area. Andrew Ruscoe, Community Development Officer and coordinator for the group, expressed delight in securing uniforms for the team and thanked partners and supporters for helping make it happen. "It's a real joy to be able to provide uniforms for the team," he said. "We're genuinely grateful to Cefn Community Council and Wrexham Council for making this possible through the Low Carbon Communities Fund. A special thank you as well to Zachary Jones, who continues to support the group." Mr Ruscoe also highlighted the crucial role of the council team behind the scenes, noting, "Without the likes of our Clerk, Trina Nicholls-Smith, and our brilliant councillors, rewarding community champions like this simply wouldn't happen."
