Erewash Cub Scouts recently enjoyed a highly competitive District Quiz Night, with all 14 packs participating from their respective meeting places throughout the week. The quiz consisted of five rounds, each containing seven questions, covering themes such as sport, Disney, Scouting, general knowledge, and films. The competition was incredibly close, resulting in a tie for the top spot with a score of 30 points between ‘White Six’ (21st Ilkeston) and ‘Snaggles Army’ (1st Breaston). The winner was ultimately decided by a tie-breaker question: 'How many Cubs were registered in the District census?'
With the official answer being 201 Cubs (comprising 159 boys and 42 girls), White Six took the victory with a closer guess of 165, compared to Snaggles Army’s guess of 280. A spokesperson for the Scouts said: 'Well done to White Six! It was great to see every pack taking part.' The trophy was presented by Gayna Cartwright from the District Cubs Programme Team, and the winning Cubs were also given The Amazing Quiz Book for Curious Kids as a reward.
'Our next district event is a trip to West Midlands Safari Park, with three coaches already booked!' Scouting is open to boys and girls from the age of four, and there is likely a Scout group located just around the corner from your home. However, Scouting cannot happen in Erewash without the dedication of its volunteers. Whether you can give an hour a week or an hour a month, volunteering is flexible and designed to fit around your lifestyle. The team is currently receiving a high volume of enquiries from young people wanting to enjoy the benefits of Scouting.
