Ilkeston Scouts Celebrate St George's Day with Parade

This year, the 21st Ilkeston (Kirk Hallam) Scout Group chose a distinctive way to celebrate St George's Day, ensuring they were visible at the heart of the community.

Festivities Begin at Headquarters

The group organised a special event that started at their headquarters, where young members enjoyed a variety of games and a barbecue featuring burgers and hot dogs. After the fun-filled activities, the group paraded together to the local church.

Service of Celebration

A spokesperson for the group commented: 'We had a lovely service of celebration which included a quiz about St George. The young members really enjoyed it; they flashed green or red cards to show their answers. After each section of the service, everyone renewed their Scouting promises.'

Chief Scout's Awards Presented

During the event, group lead volunteer Diane congratulated the young people who had achieved their Chief Scout’s Awards. These prestigious accolades included the Acorn Award for Squirrels, Bronze for Beavers, Silver for Cubs, and Gold for Scouts. The group also celebrated their new partnership with Explorers, with members achieving Platinum and Diamond awards.

Recognition and Pride

The group added: 'Well done to all the recipients. These are the highest awards in each section, and we hope you wear your badges with pride. This success is a testament to the hard work that leaders put in weekly during section nights and at extra events like camps. We truly enjoyed being together as a group—and the sun was shining!'

Volunteers Wanted

The 21st Ilkeston Scout Group is currently seeking volunteers to join the adventure. They are specifically looking for an extra pair of hands for their Cub Pack, which meets on Mondays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm, and their Explorer section, which meets on Mondays from 8pm to 9.30pm. Those interested in helping can contact the group by emailing ilkeston21stscoutgroup@outlook.com or calling 0115 9329979.
