Armed Police Deploy to Telford Home After Assault Report, 56-Year-Old Man Arrested

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon after armed police were deployed to a residential street in Dawley, Telford, in the early hours of Sunday, March 15, 2026.

West Mercia Police were called to St Peters Close shortly before 1am following reports of an assault. Armed officers attended the scene as a precautionary measure after it became clear that weapons were present inside the property.

Police Response and Community Reassurance

Detective Inspector Richard Davies addressed public concerns, stating: "I know that seeing armed police in a quiet, residential area may have looked and felt alarming. However, I'd like to reassure you that the incident was contained and there was no wider threat to the local community."

One person sustained injuries during the initial assault, but these are not believed to be serious. Officers entered the home at around 7.30am due to welfare concerns for the occupant.

Arrest and Charges

The 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
