Arson Investigation Launched Following Major Factory Blaze in Birmingham
West Midlands Police have launched a full arson investigation after a significant factory fire broke out in the Lozells area of Birmingham during the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident required a substantial emergency response, with approximately 24 firefighters deployed to tackle the dangerous blaze.
Emergency Response to Roland Road Incident
The fire service received emergency calls shortly after 3:20 AM on Sunday, April 19, reporting a major fire at premises on Harold Terrace Road, located off Roland Road in Lozells. Fire crews responded immediately, with six separate fire engines attending the scene to combat the rapidly spreading flames.
Emergency services issued urgent safety advice to local residents and workers, requesting that people in the vicinity keep their doors and windows firmly closed as a precautionary measure against smoke inhalation. Authorities also advised the public to avoid the affected area entirely while firefighting operations were underway.
Police Investigation and Community Impact
West Midlands Police confirmed they are treating the incident as a suspected arson attack. A police spokesperson stated: "We are investigating a suspected arson attack on Harold Terrace Road, Lozells. We received the call shortly after 3:20 AM this morning. There were no injuries reported from the incident."
Police have appealed directly to the public for information, asking anyone with knowledge about the fire to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting log number 473 from April 19. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Scene Management and Local Disruption
Roland Road, which runs close to Birchfield Road in the Lozells neighborhood, was completely sealed off during the height of the emergency response to ensure public safety and allow fire crews unrestricted access. The road closure caused significant local disruption during the early morning hours.
Although the main road has since reopened to traffic, several fire service vehicles remained at the scene throughout Sunday morning to support the ongoing investigation into the fire's origin. The factory complex where the blaze occurred is understood to contain multiple business units, including a local gym facility located in close proximity to the affected area.
Remarkably, despite the scale of the fire and the substantial emergency response required, authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported among firefighters, factory workers, or local residents. The successful evacuation and containment prevented what could have been a far more serious incident with potential casualties.
The investigation continues as forensic teams examine the scene and police follow up on all available leads regarding the suspected arson attack that threatened both property and public safety in this Birmingham community.
