Police Helicopter Pursuit in Bearwood Leads to Major Class A Drugs Seizure
Bearwood drug bust after police helicopter chase

A dramatic police pursuit in Bearwood, involving a helicopter, culminated in the arrest of three men and the recovery of a significant haul of Class A drugs.

Helopter Tracks Fleeing Vehicle

The incident began at approximately 4.20pm on Tuesday, December 2, when officers from West Midlands Police identified a car being driven along Bearwood Road. The driver was a man wanted in connection with a separate wounding offence.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to pull over and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, multiple items were thrown from the car's window. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter was swiftly deployed to track the fleeing vehicle from the air, aiding ground units in maintaining contact.

Massive Drugs Haul Recovered

With the helicopter's assistance, officers successfully brought the car to a stop and detained its occupants. A subsequent search led to what police described as a "large amount" of Class A drugs being recovered from the scene.

Three men, all aged 19, were arrested at the scene. They were taken into custody on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Part of Ongoing Crime Crackdown

West Midlands Police confirmed the arrests are linked to Operation Target, their ongoing initiative to tackle serious and organised crime across the region. The operation involves using local intelligence, executing warrants, and targeting offenders proactively.

In a statement, the force reiterated its commitment: "We're currently running Operation Target, which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences."
