Birmingham Child Abductor Told to Return to Czech Republic

Birmingham Man Sentenced for Abducting Vulnerable Teenage Girl

A 23-year-old man from Birmingham who admitted to abducting a 14-year-old missing girl has been sentenced to two years in prison and advised by a judge to return to his home country of the Czech Republic upon his release. Kamil Gina, of Alexander Road in Acocks Green, pleaded guilty to an offence under the Child Abduction Act for detaining a child to keep her from lawful control.

Details of the Abduction and Police Intervention

Prosecutor Olivia Appleby outlined the case at Birmingham Crown Court, revealing that the teenage victim was in foster care and had a history of going missing. She was considered a high-risk child vulnerable to sexual exploitation. Foster carers had raised concerns that Gina and the girl were in a sexual relationship, with him supplying her with drugs and alcohol.

In July of last year, police attended an incident where both were present, and Gina appeared drunk and violent. He was issued a child abduction warning notice the following day, prohibiting him from being in the girl's company. However, just two days later, the teenager went missing again.

Officers responded to Gina's address and witnessed the girl climbing out of a downstairs window. Gina attempted to evade arrest and was found hiding inside, holding an object to his neck that was already bleeding. This led to his immediate apprehension and subsequent charges.

Defence and Mitigating Circumstances

Defending barrister Antonie Muller stated that Gina came to the UK for university but ended up in jail after being remanded in custody. He explained that Gina had already signed deportation papers to return to the Czech Republic, where he plans to rebuild his life. While in custody, Gina has completed five qualifications and hopes to work as a translator upon his return.

Muller highlighted that Gina arrived in the UK legally as a young man with no prior convictions but suffered a significant personal loss with the death of his mother. This bereavement led him to make poor choices, including drinking and engaging in criminal behavior. He is now ready to return to the Czech Republic, where his grandmother resides.

Judge's Sentencing and Final Remarks

Judge Andrew Lockhart KC expressed no doubt that Gina was in a sexual relationship with the girl and posed a risk to young people. He sentenced Gina to two years in prison, with the expectation that he would serve up to 40 percent of the term before release. In his concluding remarks, Judge Lockhart advised Gina to return to the Czech Republic upon release and make a decent life there, emphasizing this as constructive guidance rather than offensive commentary.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about child safety and exploitation in Birmingham, highlighting the legal consequences for those who prey on vulnerable minors. Authorities continue to monitor such incidents closely to protect at-risk youth in the community.
