Birmingham Mother Expresses Shock After Children Witness Indecent Act Outside Local Chip Shop
A Birmingham mother has spoken out about her profound shock and disgust after her teenage children reported witnessing a man performing an indecent act directly outside a chip shop in the Kingstanding area. The distressing incident occurred on College Road, prompting an immediate police investigation and raising serious community safety concerns.
Disturbing Details of the Incident
The mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, revealed that her 15-year-old daughter and 21-year-old son were heading to the chip shop on Monday, March 9, at approximately 6:30 PM when they encountered the disturbing scene. According to their account, a man was leaning against his car with his trousers down, completely exposing himself while touching himself inappropriately.
The vehicle was parked outside the eatery on a piece of waste ground commonly used for parking, with the car door open and facing the chip shop. When the man noticed the teenagers looking in his direction, he reportedly mumbled something about being diabetic and having to perform the act, which only added to the confusion and distress of the witnesses.
Family Impact and Immediate Response
"I'm just shocked. It's not what you expect when you go to the chip shop," the 39-year-old mother told reporters. "Somebody was bound to see him." She emphasized that both of her children are autistic and initially didn't understand what they were witnessing, leading her daughter to search for information on her phone afterward.
The mother immediately contacted authorities, and West Midlands Police responded promptly. Officers spoke with both children and visited the chip shop to request CCTV footage as part of their investigation. The mother has also taken to social media to warn other parents in the area, stating: "Please be mindful if your kids are around that general area of an evening."
Community Safety Concerns
The location of the incident has raised particular alarm due to its proximity to two educational institutions: North Birmingham Academy and Hawthorn Primary School. The timing of the incident, occurring just after 6 PM when many people might be out getting dinner, has intensified concerns about public safety in what should be a routine community setting.
"It does make me think what if my daughter had gone on her own what would have happened," the mother reflected, highlighting the vulnerability that many might feel in similar situations. Her children have provided police with a description of the man to aid in the investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed: "We are investigating a report of exposure on College Road, Kingstanding, around 6 PM on Monday, March 9. Officers are following a number of enquiries and remain in contact with the person who reported this."
The police have issued a crime reference number, 20/173450/26, and are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 101 or using the Live Chat function on their website. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify and locate the individual responsible for this alarming public indecency incident.
