Dramatic Rooftop Stand-Off in Selly Oak Ends With Arrest

A tense rooftop stand-off unfolded in Birmingham's Selly Oak district on Monday afternoon, March 16, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man. The incident, which drew a significant emergency response, saw the suspect allegedly throwing roof tiles at police and other services from a precarious perch.

Mobile Footage Captures Chaotic Scene

Mobile phone video captured the moment a man was seen wobbling as he balanced on the roof of terraced houses near Bristol Road. Witnesses reported the individual running across multiple rooftops before beginning to rip up tiles and hurl them towards the street below. Onlookers could be heard exclaiming in shock as debris rained down near emergency personnel.

A witness described the scene: "There were loads of people standing around and then we noticed a guy running across the rooftops. He was lucky not to fall at one point. Then he started launching tiles at emergency services who were on the street below. I don't know what caused it or how long he was up there as he disappeared out of view - but it's not something you see every day."
