A dramatic New Year's Day pursuit saw a wanted assault suspect leap from a window and lead officers on a frantic chase through residential gardens in Birmingham.
Window Jump Sparks Garden Pursuit
The incident unfolded on the morning of Wednesday, January 1, 2026, in the Sheldon area of the city. Officers from the Stechford Priority Crime team attended an address on Blakenhale Road to locate a 46-year-old man wanted in connection with an assault.
As police forced entry to the property, the suspect made a desperate bid for freedom. He jumped from a window in an attempt to evade capture, immediately sparking a foot pursuit.

The man then tried to flee the area, leading officers on a chase that wound through the streets and multiple back gardens of the local neighbourhood. The pursuit required officers to navigate fences and private outdoor spaces in their efforts to detain him.
Despite his attempts to escape, the suspect was detained a short time later and taken into custody. The arrest was confirmed by the Birmingham Priority Crime team in a post on social media platform X.
