Police and ambulance crews rushed to a Wolverhampton secondary school on Monday morning after the discovery of a man's body on its playing field.

Emergency Response at Smestow Academy

Officers from West Midlands Police and paramedics were called to Smestow Academy, located on Windmill Crescent, at approximately 10.40am on Monday, 19 January. The emergency services responded to reports of a body found within the school grounds.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The area, which sits adjacent to the Smestow Valley Nature Reserve, was quickly cordoned off as a police operation began.

School Closure and Ongoing Enquiries

As a direct consequence of the incident and the launch of a police investigation, the school took the decision to close early. All pupils were sent home at 1pm to allow forensic work and other enquiries to proceed without disruption.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed the details, stating: "We're currently at Smestow Academy after a discovery of the body in the grounds. Emergency services were called at around 10.40am today, and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

Appeal for Information

The force has now begun the process of formally identifying the man and establishing the full circumstances that led to his death. Detectives are working to piece together the events.
