Car Driven at Fighting Men in Paignton Incident

Police are investigating an incident in which a car was allegedly driven at a group of fighting men in the seaside town of Paignton. The incident occurred on Esplanade Road at around 8:15 am on Saturday, May 2.

Witness Accounts

Ian Pagel, owner of the nearby Sealawn Guest House, reported seeing a fight involving a group of adults. He stated that a car attempted to drive into the crowd, seemingly trying to run them over. After the police were called, officers were observed examining parked cars and checking number plates in the area.

Another witness described seeing a group of men punching each other. One individual got out of a car and joined the fight before returning to the vehicle. The witness claimed he then sped off as if intending to run over a man, who managed to get out of the way.

Police Statement

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a car believed to be involved has been recovered. A force spokesperson said: 'Police received reports of a disturbance involving a small group of unknown individuals. Enquiries are continuing to identify those involved and ensure their welfare. We have recovered a car and are satisfied it is the one involved. There are no arrests yet, but we are confident. Any witnesses should get in touch.'
