Child Hospitalized After Suspicious Bristol Explosion Kills Two

A child has been taken to hospital following a suspicious explosion in Bristol that claimed the lives of two people. The youngster, along with a man and a woman, sustained minor injuries in the blast that occurred at a residential property.

Incident Details

Avon and Somerset Police were called to a domestic-related incident at a house on Sterncourt Road at 6:17 AM on Sunday, May 3. Shortly before officers arrived at around 6:30 AM, an explosion took place inside the property.

Superintendent Matt Ebbs confirmed that a man and a woman died as a result of the blast, which is being treated as suspicious. He stated: "Their families have been updated and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are very much with them."

Emergency Response

A major incident was declared, and emergency services, alongside Bristol City Council, implemented well-rehearsed plans. Superintendent Ebbs added: "While our enquiries remain at an early stage, at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. It is also important to confirm we are not treating this as a suspected terrorism incident."

A cordon was established to protect the public and facilitate investigations, including specialist searches by the British Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit as a precaution. Residents within the cordon were evacuated to a temporary rest centre. The cordon is expected to remain in place until at least the evening, with updates provided as necessary.

Related Investigations

Police are also conducting enquiries at a property in Speedwell, linked to the deceased man, though no evacuations have been required at that location.
