Drug Dealer Faces Prison After Medical Incident Uncovers Body Concealment
A narcotics dealer from Warrington has been sentenced to jail following a dramatic medical episode in police custody that exposed cocaine packages hidden inside his body. The incident unfolded after authorities were called to a Co-Op store in Woolston, Warrington, Cheshire, responding to reports of a man threatening staff members.
Police Discovery and Initial Investigation
Upon arrival, officers encountered Ryan Fisher, aged 32, who appeared extremely paranoid and informed them about something suspicious in his vehicle. His car was parked nearby with his father inside, and a subsequent search revealed £1,500 in cash, a snap bag containing white powder, and three mobile phones. The white powder was later tested and identified as sulphuric acid, which Fisher's father claimed was for work purposes, adding an initial layer of confusion to the case.
Medical Episode Leads to Shocking Revelation
While in police custody, Fisher experienced a sudden medical episode, prompting his transfer to Warrington Hospital for treatment. During his hospital stay, he requested a police officer to accompany him to the lavatory, where he retrieved £500 in cash from his underwear. Medical examinations then revealed foreign objects inside his body, leading surgeons to perform a procedure that extracted packages from both his stomach and anus.
The packages were analyzed and found to contain cocaine, with the one removed from his anus holding 32 grams of the drug divided into individual deals. The total value of the cocaine was estimated between £1,600 and £3,200, highlighting the significant scale of his drug operation.
Court Proceedings and Legal Defense
At Liverpool Crown Court on March 12, 2025, prosecutors presented evidence suggesting Fisher concealed the packages within himself to evade police detection. Notably, the packages were not wrapped in the typical manner used for internal concealment, which may have contributed to his medical distress. Police drug specialists believe these improperly wrapped packages triggered the medical episode while he was in custody.
Fisher, who has a criminal record including 23 convictions for 47 offences, had recently been released from prison after serving three and a half years for possession of cocaine with intent to supply. His defense counsel, Sarah Griffin, argued that Fisher had been attempting to reform his life post-release but relapsed into drug use and dealing during a period of mourning following the loss of his grandmothers.
She stated, "He has attempted to get himself on the straight and narrow. However, the downward spiral occurred following the loss of his grandmothers." The court also heard that Fisher has sought help for his addiction while on remand, expressing a desire to lead a substance-free life upon his eventual release.
Judicial Response and Sentencing
During the hearing, Recorder Nick Flanagan questioned how Fisher, at 32 years old, could involve himself in drugs again after serving a prior prison sentence. Fisher, visibly emotional, signed and held his hands to his face, responding, "I wasn't with it, your honour." This case underscores the severe consequences of drug-related crimes and the personal struggles that often accompany addiction, as Fisher now faces imprisonment for his actions.
