A couple is appealing for witnesses after a horror crash in Sutton Coldfield left their dog thrown through the back window of their Land Rover and sent them to hospital. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, at around 9:30 PM at the junction of Somerville Road and Digby Road.
Crash Details
Curtis Marshall and his girlfriend Charlotte were returning from Nando's at The Fort to Lichfield, traveling along Somerville Road when their Land Rover Discovery was struck by a Hyundai Tucson coming from Digby Road. The impact knocked the Land Rover onto its side and spun it 270 degrees before it landed back on its wheels.
Their bulldog, Pepper, who was tethered to two anchor points in the back, was thrown through the rear window along with other items. A kind neighbor rushed Pepper to an emergency vet, where she received stitches for a four-inch wound. The couple later went to the hospital for check-ups.
Witness Appeal
There is a dispute over which vehicle had a green light, with one believed to have run a red light. Curtis said: “We were traveling towards the swimming pool and the other car came from Digby Road, down the hill. She came out of nowhere and hit the side of my car.” He expressed gratitude that the Land Rover, which he had only owned since March, was robust enough to protect them.
The other car contained a mother and daughter, who stopped at the scene. The mother was taken to an ambulance with shock. Curtis is now appealing for a couple who helped gather their belongings and for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
Charlotte posted on Facebook: “Our dog Pepper was thrown through the back window and was seriously injured. If anyone has CCTV, dashcam footage, or witnessed the accident, please contact me. Any footage from Somerville Road, Digby Road, or Monmouth Drive around 9:30 PM could be incredibly important.”
Ambulance Service Statement
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Monmouth Drive and Somerville Road at 9:26 PM. A woman was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 4405 of April 26.
