Family Located After Black Country-Linked Man Critically Injured in Birmingham Attack
Police have expressed their gratitude to the public after a relative came forward following an urgent appeal to trace the family of a man left critically injured in an assault in Birmingham.
The 60-year-old victim, who has links to the Black Country, was attacked at a property on Tew Park Road in Handsworth on Friday. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Police Appeal Leads to Breakthrough
Officers had initially been unable to locate any next of kin despite carrying out extensive enquiries, prompting a public appeal for information. That appeal has now led to a breakthrough, with a family member coming forward.
In a statement issued late Sunday evening, police thanked those who shared the appeal and helped spread awareness.
Suspect Charged and Remanded in Custody
A 38-year-old man has since been charged with wounding with intent in connection with the incident. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Investigators believe the suspect is known to the victim and have confirmed they are treating the attack as an isolated incident.
Police say enquiries are ongoing but have reassured the public there is no wider threat.
