A violent criminal gang from Birmingham has been handed prison sentences totalling more than 65 years for their roles in a meticulously planned shooting that left a father seriously injured on his own doorstep in Darlaston.
The Horrific Attack on Charles Foster Street
The incident occurred on the morning of October 11, 2024, on Charles Foster Street in Darlaston. Nadeem Khan, a father in his 40s, had just returned from the school run and was sitting in his parked BMW when a Toyota C-HR pulled up outside his home.
A masked gunman, seated in the rear of the Toyota, opened fire with a double-barrelled shotgun, shattering the windows of Mr Khan's car. The assailant then exited the vehicle, reloaded the weapon, and continued firing at the victim before escaping with his accomplices.
CCTV footage from the scene captured the harrowing moments, with Mr Khan heard shouting "I'm dead" and "phone the police, I've been shot". The attack left blood splattered across his car, the driveway, and a wall of his property.
Sentencing and the Unidentified Gunman
At Wolverhampton Crown Court, five men – none of whom were the actual shooter – were sentenced on Monday, January 12, 2026. They had all pleaded guilty on the second day of their trial in July the previous year to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The sentences handed down were:
- Shamus Hussain, 27, of Floyer Road, Small Heath: 12 years and 7 months.
- Mohammed Ishtiaq, 23, of Oldknow Road, Small Heath: 12 years and 7 months.
- Abdullah Amjad, 23, of Allens Avenue, Winson Green: 13 years and 6 months.
- Samir Khan, 19, of East Holme, Bordesley Green: 13 years and 6 months in a young offender institution.
- Dilawar Khan, 20, of Mansel Road, Small Heath: 13 years and 6 months in a young offender institution.
A Planned Assault with Unknown Motive
The court heard that the gang's plan was set in motion two days before the shooting. On October 9, 2024, they conducted a reconnaissance trip to Darlaston. The following day, they travelled from Birmingham to carry out the attack but arrived too late, missing their target who had already gone inside.
Prosecutor Darren Whitehead stated that the motive for the Darlaston shooting "remains unknown". The shotgun used in the attack has never been recovered by police.
Despite the severity of the assault, Nadeem Khan survived. He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with gunshot wounds to his face, hands, shoulders, and buttocks, and required treatment for pellets embedded in his body.
