Fylde Council Launches Free ShopSafe Radio Trial to Combat St Annes Crime
Free 12-Month ShopSafe Radio Trial Launches in St Annes

Fylde Council has rolled out a new collaborative security scheme designed to make St Annes a safer place for businesses, residents, and visitors. The Town Link ShopSafe Radio System creates a direct communication network between retailers, council officers, and the police.

How the ShopSafe Initiative Works

The core of the project is a connected radio network that enables real-time information sharing. This instant link between local businesses, town centre staff, Fylde Police, and Fylde Council officers is intended to improve the response to incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour.

By fostering quicker communication, the partners aim to prevent offences and address issues as they arise. The system forms a key part of the national Winter of Action campaign, which focuses on reducing retail crime, street crime, and problems in the night-time economy.

Funding and Free Trial for Local Businesses

The council has secured crucial funding from two sources to launch the scheme. A sum of £4,200 was provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner's Office, with additional investment coming from the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC).

This financial backing has a direct benefit for shopkeepers and other participating businesses. They will receive the ShopSafe radio system completely free of charge for an initial 12-month trial period. After the trial, businesses will be offered the option to subscribe to continue using the service, with the council pledging to work on the scheme's long-term viability.

Building a Stronger, Safer Community

Councillor Chris Dixon, Lead Member for Social Wellbeing, stated the system underscores the council's commitment to local enterprises and community safety. "This ShopSafe system demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses and creating a safer environment for everyone who visits, works or lives in St Annes," he said.

"We're delighted to have secured this funding, which gives businesses the opportunity to trial the system at no cost while we work together to ensure its long-term sustainability. This is about building a stronger, more resilient community and ensuring St Annes continues to thrive as a destination of choice."

Sergeant Adam Robinson from the Fylde Neighbourhood Policing Team echoed this sentiment, highlighting the power of partnership. "The ShopSafe Radio System is a fantastic example of how partnership working can make a real difference," he commented.

"By improving communication between businesses and our officers, we can respond quickly to incidents, prevent crime, and create a safer environment for everyone. This initiative is about building confidence and ensuring St Annes remains a vibrant and welcoming town centre."
