Birmingham Woman's Hijab Forcibly Removed in Terrifying Carjacking Attempt
A woman in Birmingham was subjected to a horrifying attack when her Hijab was forcibly pulled off as she was dragged to the ground during an attempted carjacking. The incident occurred on Hunton Hill, close to Gravelly Hill train station in Erdington, at approximately 6:30 PM on Monday, March 9.
Police Hunt for Three Suspects
West Midlands Police are actively searching for three white men in connection with the assault. According to authorities, the attackers attempted to gain entry into the victim's vehicle, but her father, who is in his 70s, intervened to protect her. The group subsequently fled the scene on foot.
Inspector Hayley Thompson from Sutton and Erdington police described the event as a "terrifying ordeal" for both the woman and her elderly father. She emphasized that officers are working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Victim and Father Left Traumatized
In a social media post, the victim recounted the traumatic experience. She stated that as she was approaching her car to go to the mosque for prayers, three men approached her. One attacker grabbed her from behind, removed her Hijab, and pushed her to the ground while trying to steal her car.
The victim's father attempted to shield her during the assault but was pushed into a gate by the assailants. The woman's screams ultimately caused the attackers to flee, leaving her and her father feeling "traumatized and shocked" by the violent encounter.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Support
Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing mobile phone footage and CCTV recordings from the vicinity to gather evidence. No arrests have been made at this time, and inquiries are ongoing.
To reassure the community and aid in the investigation, additional police officers have been deployed to the area. Authorities are also providing support to the victim as the case progresses.
