Extensive police searches at a residential address in Leicester, connected to the disappearance and suspected murder of Gary Piatek, have been officially called off. The 60-year-old man was last seen in April 2024, with no signs of life reported since that time.
Investigation Details and Charges
Leicestershire Police have confirmed that the searches at a house on Broad Avenue in Evington, Leicester, have now ended. No human remains were discovered during the operation, which lasted for several weeks. A police scene guard that was stationed at the property has been stood down.
Detective Inspector Mike Chandler, the senior investigating officer, stated: “Though we hoped our enquiries at the property would help us establish what happened to Mr Piatek, we have sadly not located his remains. I want to reassure his friends and family that the police investigation continues in the hope of locating him and understanding further what happened.”

Eight individuals have been charged in connection with Gary Piatek's death. Two of the defendants are from Birmingham, highlighting the cross-regional nature of this case. The charges include murder, assisting an offender, acquiring criminal property, and fraud.

Property Handover and Community Impact
Following the conclusion of the searches, the property on Broad Avenue has been assessed by a specialist engineer and deemed structurally safe. A formal process is now underway to hand the property over to Leicester City Council.
Detective Inspector Chandler expressed gratitude to the local community: “I’d like to thank residents of Broad Avenue and the local community for their co-operation and understanding while our investigation was focussed in their area.”
The police investigation into Gary Piatek's disappearance and death remains active, with the case progressing through the court system as authorities continue to seek answers for his family and friends.
