Details of the Alleged Incident

According to reports, Merseyside Police were called to Newton Community Hospital around midday on December 30, 2025. It is alleged that Momand attended the hospital requesting an appointment but became increasingly agitated when turned away. He then reportedly damaged a countertop before attacking several people with a weapon, believed to be a crowbar.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with some people inside the hospital barricading themselves in rooms for safety. Sugedran Shanmugaraja, an employee at a Best One store opposite the hospital, recounted how a woman rushed into the shop seeking help, covered in blood and visibly shaken. The response included 10 to 15 police cars and an ambulance.

Legal Proceedings and Future Hearings

A trial has been scheduled for the week of September 14, 2026, and is expected to last four to five days. Momand, who is originally from Afghanistan, was remanded into custody until that date. Judge Louise Brandon adjourned the case, scheduling another hearing for June 19, 2026, where Momand will again appear via video link.

Judge Brandon stated, "There will be another hearing in your case on the 19th of June. You will appear via video link in the same way you have done today. You will remain in custody in the meantime." The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the alleged attack and its location at a community hospital, with local residents expressing shock and concern for those involved.
