Man in His 60s Arrested on Suspicion of 1998 Murder of Teenager Donna Keogh

A 64-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Donna Keogh, who vanished in 1998 when she was just 17 years old. The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.

Decades-Long Investigation Leads to Arrest

Cleveland Police detectives, who have been investigating Donna's disappearance for almost 30 years, recently directed their enquiries to the Leeds area. While Donna was last seen in Middlesbrough on Tuesday, April 28, 1998, it is known that she travelled to Leeds during that year.

On the morning of Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the force confirmed it had arrested a 64-year-old man from the area on suspicion of murder. The man remains in police custody for questioning. Officers from Cleveland Police carried out the arrest alongside officers from West Yorkshire Police.

Family's Unbearable Uncertainty

Despite an extensive and lengthy investigation, Donna's body has never been found, and it is strongly suspected she was murdered shortly after she disappeared. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Steven Chatterton, stated: "This morning we have made an arrest as a result of our recent enquiries, and the man remains in police custody at this time for questioning."

He added: "We are in close contact with Donna's family and they have lived with unbearable uncertainty for nearly 30 years. We are determined to find out what happened to Donna for them. Somebody out there knows the truth. If you have information, please tell us."

Appeal for Information and Reward

Detective Chief Inspector Chatterton reiterated the appeal for anyone who may have seen Donna, spoken to her, or knows anything about her movements in Leeds in 1998 to come forward. Information can be provided directly to the police or reported anonymously.

A £20,000 reward from Crimestoppers remains in place in connection with the murder of Donna. Contact Crimestoppers anonymously online or by phone. The ongoing investigation continues to seek answers for Donna's family and the community.

Donna's Life and Legacy

Donna Keogh grew up in Middlesbrough and attended Newlands and Sacred Heart Schools. She worked at Ormesby Care Home and had dreamed of joining the Royal Navy, following in the footsteps of a proud military family.

Tragically, Donna's father Brian died in July last year after a relentless battle for answers to what happened to his daughter. The arrest brings a glimmer of hope in a case that has haunted the family and investigators for years.
