A 22-year-old man is in police custody after a dramatic early-hours chase involving a stolen vehicle ended with an arrest in Handsworth.
Swift Police Response to Stolen Vehicle
West Midlands Police were alerted just before 1:45am on Thursday, January 8, to a car being stolen from outside an address on Grove Vale Avenue in Great Barr. Officers located the suspected vehicle on Forge Lane approximately 15 minutes later, but the driver refused to stop.
Pursuit and Arrest on Station Road
A police pursuit ensued before the car was eventually abandoned, with the driver fleeing on foot. Despite the attempt to escape, a 22-year-old man was quickly apprehended on Station Road in Handsworth. He was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.
Suspect in Custody for Questioning
In a statement released following the incident, West Midlands Police confirmed the recovery of the stolen car and the swift arrest. "He is currently in custody for questioning," the force stated, highlighting their rapid work in the Sandwell and Birmingham areas in the early hours of January 8.
