A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in Birmingham, which claimed the life of a pedestrian in his seventies.
Details of the Fatal Collision
West Midlands Police were called to Highters Heath Lane in the Kings Heath area at approximately 7:30pm on Tuesday, November 4. The emergency response followed reports that a male pedestrian had been struck by a car.
The victim, a man aged in his 70s, sustained serious injuries from the collision. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he tragically passed away a short time later at the scene.
Investigation Leads to Arrest and Charges
The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit launched an immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Their work led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Tyrone Clarke.
Clarke, a 50-year-old from Evesham, was subsequently charged with three serious offences:
- Causing death by dangerous driving.
- Causing death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured.
- Theft of a motor vehicle.
The accused was scheduled to make his first court appearance at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 8.
Ongoing Inquiry and Appeal for Information
Police have confirmed that specialist officers are supporting the family of the deceased man and keeping them informed of all developments. The investigation into the collision remains active.
Authorities are continuing to appeal to the public for assistance. Anyone who witnessed the event, has relevant dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage, and has not yet spoken to police is urged to make contact.
