Man charged with A38 attack near Sutton Coldfield

A 21-year-old man has been charged with attacking a woman at the side of the A38 dual carriageway near Sutton Coldfield, leaving her with facial and hand injuries.

Details of the incident

The assault occurred on the southbound carriageway between Weeford Island and Bassetts Pole at approximately 5am on Saturday, May 16. The victim sustained injuries to her face and hands during the attack.

Edward Osbourne, of Ingram Grove, Acocks Green, Birmingham, faces multiple charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

Legal proceedings

Osbourne has been remanded into custody ahead of a trial scheduled for November at Birmingham Crown Court. Staffordshire Police confirmed the charges and urged anyone with information to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: “A man has been charged with assault offences after a woman was injured on the side of the A38 earlier this year. Edward Osbourne, 21, of Birmingham, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, criminal damage to property valued under £5,000. He has been remanded into custody ahead of a trial due at Birmingham Crown Court in November this year.”

Police appeal for witnesses

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses, particularly those with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage. The incident occurred on the A38 southbound carriageway between Weeford island and Bassetts Pole at around 5am on Saturday, May 16.
