The first photograph has been released of a man described as having a 'love for life' after he was discovered deceased on school premises in the Black Country. Neil Thompson, aged 45 and known affectionately by the nickname 'Chuck', was pronounced dead on the grounds of Smestow Academy, located on Windmill Crescent in Wolverhampton, on the morning of Monday, January 19.

West Midlands Police have confirmed that they are continuing to treat Mr Thompson's death as 'unexplained'. A comprehensive investigation is in progress to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Police have released details of Mr Thompson's last known movements and appearance in the hope that it may jog the memory of potential witnesses:
- He was seen on Wheatsheaf Road in Wolverhampton at approximately 1am on the morning of January 19.
- A subsequent sighting placed him on the grounds of Smestow Academy at around 7.15am that same morning.
When last seen, Mr Thompson was wearing a distinctive camouflage jacket, a grey gilet, jeans, and a beanie hat. He was also carrying a red rucksack and may have been wearing sunglasses.

Superintendent Martin Hurcomb from Wolverhampton Police provided an update on the case, stating: 'Our teams are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this tragic incident and we are offering support to Mr Thompson's family. Enquiries are moving ahead as investigators work to piece together his movements and we'd ask again that anyone who may have seen Mr Thompson in the early hours of yesterday does get in touch.'
He added: 'Neighbourhood officers are also out in the area, so please do speak with them as they can offer reassurance to anyone who has concerns.'
