West Midlands Police responded to calls at approximately 11:10 PM after Husum Ghnaimat, aged 26, was seen leaping onto vehicles. Officers arrived at the scene to find Ghnaimat engaging in disruptive behavior, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Video evidence shared with media outlets captured the intense struggle as two police officers attempted to restrain Ghnaimat. The footage shows him pushing an officer into a shopfront and onto a bench before being body-slammed to the ground in front of shocked onlookers.
Witness Accounts and Police Response
A witness described the scene as shocking, noting that such events are often seen online but rarely in person. "He was standing on top of the car shouting verbal abuse at them (the police). The police dragged him down and they started tussling with him," the witness said. "About five or six police cars pulled up and put him in the van. The whole thing went on for about a minute."
West Midlands Police confirmed that Ghnaimat was arrested at the scene. A spokesman stated, "We responded to reports of a man jumping on cars in Bristol Road, Selly Oak, at around 11.10pm on Thursday, March 26. A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with criminal damage and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker."
