Man Hit by Lorry in Great Wyrley in Serious Condition

Police have urged motorists to avoid the area following a serious collision in Great Wyrley where a man was hit by a lorry. The pedestrian was rushed to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a serious condition after the incident on Walsall Road at around 1.50pm on Monday, June 29.

Collision Details and Emergency Response

Staffordshire Police closed a section of Walsall Road near Darges Lane in the aftermath of the incident. A force spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious collision in Great Wyrley. We were called at 1.50pm today to Walsall Road following reports of a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian. Officers are currently at the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service. A section of the road near Darges Lane has been closed. Please avoid the area where possible."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Walsall Road in Great Wyrley at 1.47pm. We sent three ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance to the scene. On arrival, crews found a man in a serious condition, who was receiving care from an off-duty paramedic. Crews took over and immediately began administering specialist trauma care before he was conveyed under emergency driving conditions to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."

Second Collision in South Staffordshire

This incident was the second collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian in the South Staffordshire area on the same day. Emergency services were called to the junction of Bridgnorth Road and Wombourne Park in Wombourne just after 8am. Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency services, the seriously injured pedestrian died at the scene.
