Man Jailed for Kicking Defenseless Homeless Woman in Head in Salisbury CCTV Attack
Aaron Nomicas, aged 20, has been imprisoned for six months after disturbing CCTV footage captured him violently kicking a defenseless homeless woman in the head while she was lying on a walkway in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The unprovoked assault occurred as the victim, a homeless woman in her 50s, was sitting in Salisbury city center with her dog, Lance, simply trying to keep warm and minding her own business.
Details of the Vicious Attack
The incident took place at approximately 3am on January 17, when Nomicas was passing through Salisbury and, without any obvious reason, launched a brutal kick to the victim's head. The attack left the woman with facial injuries, though they are not believed to be life-changing. Following the assault, Nomicas had to be held back by those accompanying him after the victim called him a coward.
The case was reported to police the same day, and through swift investigation, CID detectives and Neighbourhood officers identified and located Nomicas within only two hours of the investigation commencing. He was subsequently charged and appeared at Salisbury Magistrates' Court, where he admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police Response and Court Sentencing
Sergeant Joshua Bliss from Wiltshire Police emphasized the impact of this case, stating, "This was a highly impactful case – the victim is incredibly vulnerable and had no way of protecting herself, or escaping from, this vicious and unprovoked attack." He added that the victim's description of the offender as a 'coward' is a sentiment shared by those involved in the investigation who viewed the CCTV footage.
Bliss further noted, "This court result should send a clear message – if you are someone who preys on the most vulnerable and defenseless members of our community, we will swiftly track you down and we will bring you to justice." The sentencing on Friday, March 6, underscores the seriousness with which such acts of violence are treated, particularly when targeting homeless individuals who are often among the most at-risk in society.
The victim, who was not acquainted with her attacker, has been left traumatized by the event, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and protection for homeless populations in urban areas. This case serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued vigilance and support for vulnerable community members.
