Man jailed for rape and sexual assault in Black Country

A man from the West Midlands has been sentenced to prison for a series of violent sexual offences against a woman.

Details of the Offences and Investigation

Anthony Lomas, aged 59 and from West Chadsmoor, was convicted of two counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault relating to a single victim. The attacks occurred in the Black Country in 2021. The survivor later bravely reported the crimes to Staffordshire Police, which led to Lomas's arrest.

Officers from the force's dedicated Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) unit took on the case. They worked extensively to support the woman throughout the legal process and to compile a robust evidence file against the perpetrator.

Court Sentencing and Consequences

Lomas appeared at Derbyshire Crown Court on Monday, 5 January 2026, where he was sentenced for his crimes. In addition to his custodial sentence, the court imposed significant lifelong restrictions on him.

The court ordered that Lomas must be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also served with a restraining order, which legally prohibits him from making any contact with the survivor in the future.

Police Statement and Support for Survivors

Detective Constable Jason Mactaggart, from the RASSO unit, commented on the case. He stated: “Lomas inflicted a campaign of abuse on the survivor in this case and has been rightfully punished for his crimes. We’re determined to support survivors as much as possible throughout the criminal justice process and to deliver these types of outcomes for them.”

Staffordshire Police reiterated its commitment to helping victims of sexual offences. They encourage anyone who has survived such an attack and feels ready to speak to the authorities to make contact. Support is available by calling 101 or using the Live Chat function on the Staffordshire Police website.
