Man jailed for six years for Telford car park sex assault

A man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for a sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl in a Telford town centre car park.

Details of the Harrowing Attack

Lee Ward, also known as Lee Thomas, approached the teenager as she walked alone on February 4, 2023. The 42-year-old, of no fixed address, persuaded the girl to follow him into a multi-storey car park.

Once inside, Ward led his victim into a stairwell. He then produced a blanket and carried out a serious sexual assault. The court heard how the girl pleaded with him to stop before she managed to leave the scene, visibly distressed. She later reported the crime to police.

Arrest, Trial and Sentencing

Ward was arrested on February 20, 2023, while he was busking outside an Asda supermarket in Telford town centre. He was subsequently charged with multiple offences:

  • Four counts of sexual assault
  • Assault by penetration
  • Attempting to cause a person to engage in sexual activity

Following a 10-day trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court in October 2025, a jury found him guilty on all counts. On November 28, 2025, Ward was handed his custodial sentence at Stafford Crown Court.

Police Praise Victim's Courage

Detective Constable Jack Pedley of West Mercia Police led the investigation. He stated: “This was a harrowing case and I am relieved that justice has been achieved as Ward is a danger to the wider public, especially women and girls.”

He praised the victim's bravery, adding: “The courage shown by the victim in coming forward has been instrumental and I hope this outcome offers her some reassurance.” DC Pedley emphasised the police's dual duty to support victims and protect the community from dangerous individuals like Ward.

The detective also expressed hope that the result would give other victims of sexual offences the confidence to come forward, knowing they will be listened to, supported, and that offenders will be prosecuted.
