A major police search is underway for a prisoner who absconded from an open prison in Buckinghamshire over the Christmas period.
Prisoner unlawfully at large
Mahad Elmi, aged 27, left HMP Springhill, located near the village of Grendon Underwood. Authorities believe his disappearance occurred overnight or in the early hours of the morning sometime between Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Thames Valley Police have confirmed that Elmi is now unlawfully at large and has no lawful licence to be in the community. A public appeal has been issued to help locate him.
Public warning and description
Detective Sergeant Matthew French, of the Priority Crime Team, issued a clear warning to the public. "We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Mahad Elmi," he said. "If you see Elmi, do not approach him and call 999 instead."
Elmi is described as:
- A black man, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall.
- Of medium build.
- He has medium-length black hair, a beard, and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Mahad Elmi is urged to steer clear and dial 999 immediately to report his whereabouts.
Members of the public with any other information that could assist the investigation are asked to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting the unique reference number 43250653119.
The manhunt continues as authorities work to return the escaped prisoner to custody.
