Mercedes Driver's 155mph Joyride in Birmingham Brought to Sudden End
A reckless driver in Birmingham reached speeds more typical of a race track than city streets, with a Mercedes AMG CLA45 clocked at a staggering 155mph in Sutton Coldfield. This incident, recorded by West Midlands Police, marks the fastest speed detected in the region since the beginning of last year, more than double the motorway speed limit.
Details of the High-Speed Incident
The dangerous joyride came to an abrupt halt when police spotted the driver, wiping the smile from his face as he was stopped in his tracks. The owner of the expensive vehicle, which can be worth over £60,000, faced prosecution for dangerous driving following the incident, which occurred in March last year. Details emerged after a freedom of information request by BirminghamLive to West Midlands Police regarding fastest recorded speeds.
While West Midlands Police confirmed the location as Sutton Coldfield, they did not specify whether it was on a motorway or a normal road. The driver likely received an automatic driving ban due to the excessive speed, highlighting the severe consequences of such reckless behavior.
Other Notable Speeding Cases in the West Midlands
This was not an isolated case of extreme speeding in the area. Other high speeds recorded on West Midlands roads include:
- A BMW driver clocked at 151mph on the M6, northbound between Junctions 4 and 5 near Castle Bromwich, also more than double the motorway limit.
- Two Audi owners caught doing 143mph on separate dates in March and April on the M42 northbound, one between Junctions 3A and 4 and the other between Junctions 4 and 5.
These incidents underscore a troubling trend of dangerous driving that puts public safety at risk, prompting continued vigilance from law enforcement.
