Midlands Nurse's Car Stolen During Hospital Night Shift in Nuneaton
Healthcare worker Jade Brace was left 'sickened and upset' after her car was stolen from a staff car park while she worked a night shift at George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. The incident occurred as she tended to patients during a demanding 12-and-a-half-hour shift, highlighting the vulnerability of NHS staff.
Details of the Theft
Jade Brace's white Toyota RAV4 was taken from the hospital's staff car park at 12.06am on Thursday, February 5. Security footage captured a suspect dressed in black with their face covered, and the vehicle was last seen speeding along the A444 in Nuneaton. Police have been notified and are investigating the theft.
"It's disgusting someone thinks it's OK to steal my car while I am at work caring for people," Jade told Coventry Live. "It's low to steal from hospitals and NHS staff who are working tirelessly with the growing demand. I found it had been stolen on my break."
Impact on Personal and Professional Life
The theft had severe consequences for Jade, both professionally and personally. She was unable to finish her shift on the Acute Medical Unit due to the stress and had to walk home in freezing conditions wearing only a cardigan, as her coat was in the stolen car.
"I felt unable to go back to finish my shift because I wouldn't have been able to concentrate and give the patients my best, which would be unfair," she explained.
Personally, the car was essential for her disabled daughter, who relied on country drives to feel soothed when dysregulated. Additionally, sentimental items were lost, including worry beads left by her grandmother who passed away 15 years ago.
Hospital Response and Support
A spokesperson for George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust expressed distress over the incident, stating, "We are aware of a vehicle theft from the hospital and recognise it is very distressing for our colleague. This is an especially upsetting thing to happen to them while they were caring for others, and we are providing them our full support."
The trust is cooperating with police and reviewing security measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and patients. They encourage anyone with information to contact the police directly.
Community Support
In response to the theft, Jade has set up a fundraiser to help purchase a new car, demonstrating community solidarity in the face of this distressing event. The incident underscores the challenges faced by healthcare workers and the need for enhanced security at medical facilities.
